This winter we are working on themes for new exhibition for our Spring opening and are looking for volunteers interested in researching the fascinating history of the Foundry and industry in Hayle. We would also like to hear your recollections of the Foundry site, buildings and businesses in more recent times.
Our next exhibition will feature the history of Harvey’s shipbuilding on South Quay. We would also like to update our story to the twentieth century. For example, we have a photograph of a tanker making a delivery to the harbour in the mid-1970s and would be interested to hear from anyone who could tell us more about this.
We are also researching J&F Pool and will be posting some images from the workplace on our Facebook site and on Nostalgic Hayle. Look out for the photographs and let us know if you recognise any of the people featured!
If you have any photos, newspaper cuttings or artefacts on any of the subjects mentioned, or if you or a relative, are interested in sharing your stories with us, please contact Hayle Heritage Centre.
Lastly, please get in touch if you would like to help run visitor services at the Heritage Centre when we re-open at Easter. You can volunteer for a minimum of 3 hours upwards and training will be provided. Our opening hours are 11am-4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and we would like to be able to open on Saturdays – the more volunteers we have, the more hours we can open!
