John Harvey House and the drawing office were redeveloped in 2004 as part of phase 1 of the Harvey's Foundry re-development scheme.
This grade 2 listed buildings originally were used as the main office for Harvey's & Co Ltd and the Drawing Office is where great engineers such as Arthur Woolf and Richard Trevithick worked.
After years of neglect, Harvey's Foundry Trust working in partnership with Penwith District Council, Hayle Town Council, English Heritage, SWERDA, Heritage Lottery Fund, Cornwall County Council and the Prince's Regeneration Trust developed a proposal that would transform this building into a flagship regeneration project for Hayle.
Today John Harvey House and the Drawing Office provide a base for the Harvey's Foundry Trust, an archive storage facility used by Cornwall County Records Office and office space.
The large open ground floor of John Harvey House is also used by the local community on any given night you may find a samba band practicing or Hayle Twinning Association learning to speak French!
John Harvey House has been held up as an exemplar project by The Prince's Regeneration Trust of how to use a redundant historic building as a catalyst for change in a community.
